The Cinémathèque suisse offers a rich and varied programme of retrospectives, tributes and cycles dedicated to a particular filmmaker, actor or film genre. It also presents numerous previews of films and screenings of restored heritage films, often in the presence of great names from the world of cinema, as well as ciné-concerts. Beginning on March 1st, 2024, all Cinémathèque suisse screenings and events will now take place at the Capitole cinema in Lausanne, which now has two rooms.

Salle Freddy Buache, the Capitole's historic auditorium
The Capitole's historic main auditorium now has 736 seats. There are now seats reserved for people with reduced mobility, and a lift serves all floors of the building. The projection booth is equipped with a 4K digital projector and two 35mm projectors that can be adapted to 70mm, the only cinema in Switzerland with this set-up. Film classics, silent films accompanied by orchestra and previews of recent films will be screened in the presence of leading figures from the world of cinema.

A second, 140-seat screening room has been built in the basement, accessible both from the main foyer of the main auditorium and, if necessary, from the outside. The vast projection booth is equipped with a 4K digital projector, two 35mm projectors and a 16mm projector. This new room can also accommodate private, professional and school screenings, as well as silent films with piano accompaniment.
